It’s nap time for these turtles. This rocky shore is a popular resting place for them and this day about 14 months back was the most We’ve seen. We counted 15 including the one near the vegetation. Some were bunched up and sleeping on each other. Definitelyf a treat to see so many and look back through photos on the phone that remind us of the special moment.
One of the cool things about Maui is how easy it is to access beaches and the ocean. For people that just landed or are running errands in Kahului Kanaha Beach Park is a peaceful retreat to stunning ocean views. You can walk through the pines or down the beach, watch Kitesurfers and Windsurfers or take a dip in the rejuvenating Maui waters. This beautiful park sits just to the north of the Kahului Airport and there is a road out of the airport to it!
A Lahaina Noon is whe the sun is straight overhead which causes objects to cast no shadow. This is in the regular sense where a shadow is off to a side of objects. For things that have a larger top it creates a perfect outline shadow. We used a cup and it was fascinating how the shadow was a perfect circle below the rim on concrete.
Noteworthy is how rectangular the phone is when we photographed the cup.
Looking at mauka it was all clouds hiding Haleakala. Turning makai gave a view of some sun yellowed clouds and palms. High above was just enough of a hole for the sun to squeeze through and make a beautiful morning display.
In Kihei is Ko`ie`ie fish pond. This historical Hawaiian spot is enjoyed by many including turtles. They like to relax in the sun on the rocks. There were several looking pretty comfortable this day. There's a nice video on this pond featuring Kimokeo Kapahulehua, president of the Maui Fishpond Association https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvRMO8Qr94o
Loved Maui since the first time here and now it's home. Been convincing people to experience the magic here for years. This place makes you feel so alive and in awe of the beauty. You can look at the same places everyday and see something new. Also you run into interesting people and share good stories and times unexpectedly. This is something that needs to be shared, so here we are! It won't document everything, but things where getting a photo or having the time to write it down is possible will be posted here. Aloha and Mahalo from Maui.
