Great way to bring in the new month. Went to Launiupoko for some surf and beach time and caught these guys hanging out, sleeping and adjusting themselves and looking around while seeming pretty casual. They were much more lively than normal. Fun to watch for all that were there.
A midweek surf break at Launiupoko was made special by two monk seals on the beach, They always seem so relaxed. Sometimes laying flat on their back or waking, shifting position and glancing around. Seeing them makes the day special!
As the sun dropped low it threw some beautiful color to the clouds between the pali and Lanai. As the days grow shorter the sunset is moving toward the south instead of setting behind the west Maui mountains. Luckily there were enough cloud lines to make some colorful magic as daylight was ending.
Iao is a special place. Also a great relief from hot afternoons. Everytime we go there we see or experience new things. This day we noticed the roots of the trees that grew around large and small rocks visible now because a heavy rain a year or two back washed away much of the dirt. This mixed interestingly with the greenery of the mountains and pines. Truly magical.
A walk out to the beach finds dunes, grass and sprawling ground cover plants. Some have bright flowers at times adding nice color to the already stunning views. Plants like these pohuehue with their pretty purple flowers actually protect the sand and land from blowing or eroding way.
Loved Maui since the first time here and now it's home. Been convincing people to experience the magic here for years. This place makes you feel so alive and in awe of the beauty. You can look at the same places everyday and see something new. Also you run into interesting people and share good stories and times unexpectedly. This is something that needs to be shared, so here we are! It won't document everything, but things where getting a photo or having the time to write it down is possible will be posted here. Aloha and Mahalo from Maui.
