Huge Swell Sunset Magic & The Drive Home

10/26/2015

Driving back from Haiku I spotted some huge waves when I looked toward the ocean. It was the first large north swell of the year.  I pulled into the Hookipa lookout to watch and photograph the waves.  The treat I experienced was huge, swell and Magic!

As I past through Paia toward Baldwin Beach Park on the drive home Maui brought home the Magic again!

The Gecko on the Fence

Spotted this bright green Gecko when it scampered up the 2x4 of the fence. I watched in excitement as I carefully pulled out my phone to snap a photo. How long the gecko would stay to get a shot kept me in suspense.

Rainbow to Puamana from the Water

It's great to wake up and get in the beautiful blue ocean.  One of those special things about being on Maui with all its easy access to the ocean.  Maui waters are amazing, nurturing and rejuvenating.  This morning had an extra special treat - a rainbow!

Supergreen Westside

The world has had lots of unusual weather the last year or so.  Maui has too.  The westside got a lot of rain along with that side of the mountains. Normally in Summer heading into Fall the are tan and brown. This year they are vibrant shades of green lit up by the sun.  Sometimes the clouds create stunning contrasts of lighter and darker green.
These photos are from Sept 15, but as of today they are still supergreen.

The Ocean Is In Charge

The ocean is constantly moving and changing the worlds coastlines.  On Maui this is frequently noticeable.  It alters the sand with tides, currents, and waves.  Today the amount of drop off at this gray sand beach was the biggest we've seen.
It usually is a smooth sloped beach with occasional drop offs of about one foot.   This time it was taller and stretched way down the beach.

Loved Maui since the first time here and now it's home.  Been convincing people to experience the magic here for years.  This place makes you feel so alive and in awe of the beauty.  You can look at the same places everyday and see something new. Also you run into interesting people and share good stories and times unexpectedly. This is something that needs to be shared, so here we are!
It won't document everything, but things where getting a photo or having the time to write it down is possible will be posted here. Aloha and Mahalo from Maui.
