Went for a snorkel and looked to my side and there it was - a turtle swimming along with us. As it passed by the sun rays in the water created a cool effect. Then the turtle went up for air and glided around gracefully before moving out of sight.
On a windy day Makena has some areas sheltered from the blustery conditions. Today while snorkeling a turtle swam alongside me though water was too sandy for good photo. Later a short walk to the rocky cove revealed 5 turtles sunning on the pebble beach. Followed by six then seven that snuggled closer then repositioned. Easily an hour of fun to watch! Then it was time to relax , enjoy the scenic view of lava rock lined bay and listen to the ocean's music as it splashed in and out.
Extra strong winds from a high pressure system added a chill to the Maui winter air. Many of us grabbed a long sleeve or jacket for a stroll on the beach. I opted to at least keep the board shorts and slippas. Gotta flip 'em off and get some the toes in the sand and saltwater! During the walk a rainbow appeared, disappeared and returned in various forms. The warmth of colors complimented by the tropical island landscape were enough to heat up the soul.
Pleasant winds and comfortable weather were perfect for a walk on the beach. Kihei has lots of beautiful easy to access beaches. Today's choice was Charlie Young and Kam I. The lava rock mixed with sand makes for interesting exploring. Add in some waves making explosive splashes on them and you have an exciting walk. magical Maui walk!
Located right behind the airport on the North coast of Maui is Kanaha Beach park. Also the home of kite beach and lots of pine trees and small pine forest. Maui makes it easy to take a scenic beach break while running errands. Great to pause and take in the beauty and get a breath of fresh salty air!
Loved Maui since the first time here and now it's home. Been convincing people to experience the magic here for years. This place makes you feel so alive and in awe of the beauty. You can look at the same places everyday and see something new. Also you run into interesting people and share good stories and times unexpectedly. This is something that needs to be shared, so here we are! It won't document everything, but things where getting a photo or having the time to write it down is possible will be posted here. Aloha and Mahalo from Maui.
